Future World

Map of Epcot

As most people know, Epcot is split into two major parts. Future World and World Showcase. As soon as you enter the park you are in Future World and that stretches all the way back to the front side of World Showcase Lagoon. Future World is meant to be a celebration of current technological advances where one can learn as well as have fun. Everything from hands on exhibits to thrill rides, to discovering the latest ways food is grown can all be found here.

As soon as you enter Epcot and Future World from the main entrance, you will see Spaceship Earth looming above you. This attraction will take you from the beginning of human communication through important periods in time where major advances were made, and what we can look forward to in the future of communication.

Behind Spaceship Earth you will find Innoventions Plaza which houses Innoventions, which has 10 wonderful exhibits about the latest technological advances and how they can be applied in everyday life. Also found in Innoventions Plaza is the Fountain of Nations, which is a spectacular musical fountain that has over 300 nozzles and has frequent water shows set to classic Disney and Epcot related music. Off to the sides of the fountain you can find the Epcot Character Spot where you and your family can meet Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy and Pluto, and the Fountain View Cafe is behind the character greeting area, for those of you with a sweet tooth. The other side of the Plaza features the Electric Umbrella, which is a great counter service restaurant where you can get your burgers/chicken/salads and get a break from the heat. Across the breezeway is the largest store in Epcot, Mousegear. Check here for literally anything you could think of that’s Disney related. Hats, pins, collectible items, housewares, clothes, toys.. you name it, good chance its here!

Head out of the plaza to the East and you will find three attractions that are both new as well as old school (this is not a bad thing!). One of the original attractions to open with Epcot, the Universe of Energy hosted by Ellen DeGeneres is located on the far end. Next to that are two of Epcot’s newest and most thrilling attractions. Mission: SPACE and Test Track are both located next to each other, and both are not to be missed. In one you are selected for the first manned mission to mars, and on the other you get to learn about how cars are tested and get to go along for the ride!

The West half of Future World includes three more attractions that everyone will love. The Seas with Nemo and Friends takes you into the world of Nemo and experience what life is like in our oceans. This is also home to one of the most technologically advanced ever created. Turtle Talk with Crush lets guests interact with the famous turtle in real time, and actually carry on conversations with him!

Next up is The Land where inside you will find three attractions and one of the better counter service dining options, especially if you want something other than burgers. Soarin’, Epcot’s newest attraction that was originally in Disneyland but its popularity caused one to be build here, and takes you on a flight across the country that something to be seen, and smelled to be believed (Yes, I said smelled). Living with the Land is a relaxing boat ride that takes you on a tour through in use agricultural stations and explains how current advances in technology help with growing the food you eat daily and the Circle of Life: An Environmental Fable has your favorites from the Lion King show us what happens when we go too far with developing land and what we can do to reduce our impact on the environment. Also located here is the Garden Grill which is a table service dining experience that rotates while you eat. (The restaurant orates, not your food) While Sunshine Seasons is a counter service location that is a food court that is not to be missed if you want something other than burgers and chicken strips. They have soups, grilled items, breakfast choices and salads as well.

Lastly, is the Imagination Pavilion. Featuring Michael Jackson in “Captain EO” and a classic (but updated) attraction, “Journey Into Your Imagination” starring Figment! Dedicated to exploring and stretching the boundaries of your imagination, this pavilion will delight kids of all ages!
