My Epcot Memory

My favorite Epcot memory comes from my trip in 2005 with my high school band. The trip was a part of Disney’s Magic Music Days. The thing that made this trip unique was that we got to go backstage!

In the afternoon we were in a parade of several high school bands around the world showcase promenade. I’ll never forget playing the Notre Dame Victory March (our school’s fight son) as we marched around the promenade. One of the strangest things about that day was that guests took our picture. It’s weird to think that me in my band uniform may be in someone’s scrapbook.

Another part of that trip involved recording a piece that would be put under Disney animation. Of course this was never in a film you saw, but we got a copy to watch when we got home. The recording studio was backstage, in an area most guests never get to see. For a Disney fan, this was nirvana! In all honesty, backstage was very utilitarian and nothing special, the opposite of the guest areas.

While I’ve been to WDW and Epcot many times, going backstage and performing for guests made that trip one I will never forget.

Have you been backstage? Did you participate in Magic Music Days?
