What’s Happening to Epcot?

Epcot is by far my favorite park. Hello! I post on this blog on a weekly basis! Unfortunately, it has come to my attention lately that Epcot is not quite what it used to be, and that fact is devastating me! Let me prove my point to you…

1. When was the last time we saw a major change in World Showcase? Yes we have had the addition of a few restaurants in the last 2 years, but British Invasion has recently abandoned the United Kingdom and Le Cellier went to two dining credit. Seriously, a new country? A new ride? A new attraction? Anything would be sweet!

2. I love Illuminations: Reflections of Earth as much as the next guy, but isn’t Epcot ready for something more? Keep Illuminations and give us a parade, or lose Illuminations and come up with something even better for us to love! It has been a great 12 years!

Time for something new?

3. Let’s face the music people… Future World is in shambles. I have multiple points to address here:

A. The Wonders of Life pavilion is gone. It’s gone! The pavilion will never be the same.

The Former Wonders of Life

B. The Universe of Energy has seen better days. I think we will all agree that it is a great spot for a good nap on a hot day though.

C. Mission: Space just doesn’t fit Walt Disney’s design. Would he really want an attraction put in his parks that not everyone can enjoy? I understand the space part, but I get sick every time I look in the direction of that pavilion.

D. Captain EO… Enough said.

E. I miss Sea Base Alpha

Ok, so that leaves the Land Pavilion and Test Track…. pretty sad, huh?

I’m looking for comments on this one. With such a big renovation happening in the Magic Kingdom, why not another park? The D23 expo is coming up next month. A girl can wish, can’t she?

    I agree with everything you said except for Illuminations. I would really hate to see it go. For me, it symbolizes Epcot.

    This Is something that has been long over looked. I have grown up with going to EPCOT since December of 1982. It was awe inspiring, but that was a different time. Now kids have iPads,iPhones,Blackberrys etc. My kids see EPCOT as the last place to visit in the parks. It doesn’t have the awe it once had to the kids of this day and age. My 4 kids are very computer and tech savvy and as my 15 year old said after showing her this article she said EPCOT is the Community OF Yesterday and agreed. She still likes seeing her dad sing all the words to Cpt. EO. when we go but that was my childhood. Figment has turned into some little child’s nightmare. For EPCOT TO STAY RELEVANT,they must listen to the children of today.

    Don’t get me wrong by the last post,I love EPCOT.With a future for the Oddessy Lounge I think that is a small step forward. My daughter said why not have a wifi adventure across the park that can be connected to everyone’s phone that turns on their phone’s wifi? A personal interactive tour guide. similar to a pal Mickey theme just with the power of newer phones to enhance the experience. Just throwing stuff out there :)

    I love Epcot. I really do. More than I ever did as a child. It’s amazing how many times I will go into the World Showcase and realize how much isn’t there. A shop and a restaurant don’t teach me much about a country, and I wish there was more education. More education throughout the whole park. Ellen’s Energy Adventure could definitely be updated… and there is so much tech advancement these days it’s a shame that it is not reflected in a place that is supposed to be about “tomorrow”. I keep telling my husband that Apple should invest in one of the areas. Can you imagine how amazing that would be?

    I would love to see a major update after Fantasyland is finished. Let’s hope our dreams come true at some point.

    EPCOT is a sad reflection of the way our society has changed, from being forward-thinking, dreaming of opportunity for all, to being selfish, motivated by profit and “branding.” One day, one day, maybe things will change.
